Another championship and 1 Million dollars have slipped away! |
|
I have been back from Pittsburgh fishing in the Forrest L. Wood Cup for $1 million and already raced to another FLW series event that was as tough of a fishery. The cup did not go nearly as well as planned - I had a decent practice and discovered something the last day that I thought had great potential, but conditions changed drastically and I failed to adjust with them. I had found that I could catch a lot of suspended fish around the barges and under docks but that evaporated when we had som heavy rain that muddied the water and brought strong current adn caused the fish to scatter down the banks. I ended up throwing a Megabass pop-x under trees with mayflies hatching on them and throwing a Berkley slim shakey on current breaks to catch a measly 5 fish over two days and finish 50th place. |

Ticonderoga largemouth bite surprising slow on day one |
|
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Each year when FLW Outdoors brings a major tournament to Lake Champlain, Kellogg’s pro Clark Wendlandt targets smallmouths on the north end of the lake. But this year he’s fishing down south in Ticonderoga – figuring largemouths would be needed to make the top-10 cutoff and subsequently claim his third Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year title. Ironically, Luke Clausen might just steal AOY from Wendlandt with his beloved brown bass. Read More |

Clausen makes move in Land O'Lakes Angler of the Year race |
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Each year when FLW Outdoors brings a major tournament to Lake Champlain, Kellogg’s pro Clark Wendlandt targets smallmouths on the north end of the lake. But this year he’s fishing down south in Ticonderoga – figuring largemouths would be needed to make the top-10 cutoff and subsequently claim his third Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year title. Ironically, Luke Clausen might just steal AOY from Wendlandt with his beloved brown bass.
Surprisingly, the Ticonderoga area did not produce as predicted by many. In fact, only Mike Hawkes, Wendlandt and his fellow Kellogg’s teammates Dave Lefebre and Alvin Shaw were able to manage respectable limits from the area’s famed grass mats. For whatever reason, the bite down south was clearly off. Read More |

Luke 6th Day 1 Lake Champlain |
|
Among the Top 3 AOY contenders, Wendlandt stands out as doing something different. First, though, a recap of the points standings prior to the event:
1. Ehrler -- 905 (currently 46th)
2. Wendlandt -- 902 (currently 14th)
3. Clausen -- 900 (currently 6th)
4. Andy Morgan -- 881 (currently 58th)
Clausen said he's glad he "survived" today, because he was all but sure the calm, sunny weather would derail his bite and that "scared (him) to death." He fished north for smallmouths and culled throughout the day by working back through areas. He's fishing in about 14 to 15 feet of water and plans to hit some of the same areas tomorrow, plus some different ones.
The setup is a little ironic, since he was in about the same position last year in terms of the AOY title, but blew on day 2 at the Detroit River. "I think I needed to finish in the Top 80 and I finished about 100th," Clausen said of Detroit. "I'm just trying to keep (the AOY race) out of my mind right now, but it would mean a lot to win it. I probably hold it in higher regard than winning the Bassmaster Classic or the FLW championship." Read More |
